Rising Moon

This is an excellent pattern to use with specialty fabrics or large-scale prints. The first sample was made with vintage linen. A color scheme using a light, medium, and dark value work really well with this pattern. The second example of this quilt. A color scheme based on three colors with a light, medium, and dark value work very well for this quilt. The 1" wide sashing strips act as a grid for separating the blocks. This pattern also presents you with and excellent opportunity to create a sampler of different machine quilting patterns.

Quilt Sizes Included in Pattern:

  • Lap: 64" x 82"
  • Queen: 82" x 118"
  • King: 100" x 118"

This version was made with vintage linen that was dyed a lovely soft butter yellow.

Quilt pattern with lovely hand dyed fabrics.

This was the first version that I made of this quilt. I wanted to make a quilt for my son to take off to college with him. I wanted a quilt that he could use every day and never have to worry about getting it dirty or wearing it out. The only difference in this one and the one above is that I used red sateen rectangles instead of the gray circles that were used for the linen quilt.

I hand dyed all of these fabrics in shades of black, gray, and taupe with a little red thrown in here and there. I call this quilt "Storm" as it reminded me of the intense, turbulent energy that presents itself when an intense weather front moves in.
