Fee: $100.00
Two Day Workshop
Learn the basic principles of design and the various types of composition used to create any effective piece of art, whether it is an art quilt or a painting.
This will be a fun, fast-paced class aimed at familiarizing you with these concepts as you work through a series of exercises. I will also share many of the design techniques that I have developed over the years which are greatly beneficial to me.

Workshop: Dyeing with Procion
Skill Level: All Levels
Date: March 8-9, June 28-29
Fee: $100.00
Two Day Workshop
In this workshop we will cover all of the basic information on working with Procion MX dyes. We will be using the low-water immersion technique to dye a 12 step color wheel with just three colors. You will discover how easy, fun, and exciting it is to create your own fabrics.
We will progress on to dyeing tints and shades while also learning to do a nine step color gradation.
I always use just three basic colors for all of my work, and I will share all of my tips on over dyeing with you. This workshop is recommended before moving onto the more advanced workshops in dyeing which will be offered later in the year.
Note: There will be a supply fee, but I have not calculated it as yet.

Workshops: Embellishing with Threadwork
Skill Level: Beginning to Intermediate
Date: Feb. 23-24, May 24-25
Fee: $100.00
Two Day Workshop
We will cover a wide variety of techniques for adding texture and dimension to your textile pieces with threadwork. You will learn direct application methods worked on the quilt surface itself, as well as indirect methods of creating shapes or objects with Solvy or other stabilizers, which are then added to the quilt top.
You will be introduced to several layering and stitching combinations to make your work truly unique. We will experiment with thread color to see what even a slight change in color can do.
All of this will be accomplished using free-motion embroidery techniques, so some experience is helpful but not mandatory.
Note: There will be a supply fee, but I have not calculated it as yet.

Workshop: Painting with Setacolor
Skill Level: Beginning to Intermediate
Date: 10:00 - 4:00 PM
Fee: $100.00 (plus $40.00 supply fee)
Two Day Workshop
In this workshop we will spend two days discovering the myriad possibilities of working with Setacolor fabric paint on cotton and silk. Setacolor is a heliographic, or sun-sensitive paint. Weather permitting we will work outdoors using plants and other objects as a resist. If that is not possible we will work indoors and cover many other techniques.
This is one of the easiest ways that I have found to create your own beautiful fabrics. I will teach you the techniques I have developed for layering my paints to achieve depth and variation. You absolutely do not need any prior experience in painting or dyeing.
I will provide all the paints and all of the pre-washed fabrics, including the silk.

Workshop: Shibori

Fee: $40.00
Shibori is the Japanese method of stitching, folding and clamping fabric to create beautiful and intricate patterns once dyed.
We will cover techniques used in creating several different types of shibori including kumo, arashi, and itajime. In this class we will prepare fabric for the indigo dyeing offered in September.
You are encouraged to trey a variety of natural fibers including cotton, linen, and silk. We will not actually be doing any dyeing in class that day. |

Tsukineko Ink Projects
Skill Level: Beginning to Intermediate
Date: April 12-13
Fee: $100.00
Two Day Workshop
I have designed several new projects using the incredible Tsukineko inks and markers. I am now combining them with stitching. You will learn to stitch a design, and then paint it. You will also learn to paint the design first and then enhance it with quilting or decorative stitching.
We will work on background color washes with diluted ink as well as the shading and layering of the color in the objects.
You will create finished pieces that can be made into a small wall hanging or a decorative pillow. You will develop your skills with these products so that you can easily produce your own original work. If you can color in a coloring book, you can easily master these techniques. There will be a supply for the inks, etc., but I have not calculated this as yet.
Note: Although this piece was done with the Tsukineko inks, we will not be doing this exact project in class. We will be doing a similar piece with oak leaves. |
